The 8th graders, in fourth period reading, read the book Four Perfect Pebbles. This is a memoir written by Marion Blumenthal Lazan and Lila Perl. The book is about Marion's life and how she survived living in Westerbork, Bergen-Belson, being on the Death Train, finally getting liberated, and her life after. Once they completed the book, the students wrote letters to Marion, which were sent to her through email. After receiving the letters, Marion took the time to email a response where she answered each question the students asked her. They will also get the opportunity to watch her speak (virtually) at the beginning of April. This is a great opportunity since Marion is among the few living survivors of the Holocaust.

If you've ever been in the high school weight room, you know it can get messy with all of the accessories in there. Mr. Miller's Intro to Engineering students made these hanging racks to help keep things neat and tidy. These look awesome!

This week Miss Low’s 8th grade careers class had the opportunity to zoom with and gain knowledge from two individuals from different career clusters. Curtis Sturgill from Morton Building in Onawa talked about the education and training he has. He discussed his occupation description and the  opportunities available at Morton Building. Curtis gave some great advice about staying involved in high school and in your community when you grow up.   Alex Flanigan, RN/NP from Unity Point and former MVAO graduate zoomed with the 8th grade class to share about her career in the NICU. Alex shared about her education and the different requirements to become a RN/NP. She reminded our students that hard work and perseverance is a huge part in achieving your dreams! Thank you to both of these individuals for taking time out of your busy day to answer the questions of our students!
