On March 9th, the MVAOCOU High School student council hosted the Northwest Iowa Student Council Leadership Conference. NW District Officer Molly Fitzpatrick and NW District Officer elect Grayce Hanke hosted the conference, leading 180 student leaders from across northwest Iowa. The keynote speaker, Kim Smith, spoke about the importance of online safety.
After the keynote speaker, there were many breakout sessions that students could choose from including information about leadership at the state level, working with the administration, fundraising ideas, Honor Council applications, and social media presence. There was also a session about the state project that our student council conducted a few weeks ago. Students who attended this session packed the bags that will be donated to local foster care families. The bags included a blanket and a stuffed animal that the student council collected during the teddy bear toss.
Student council elections for the 2022-2023 school year will start on Friday, April 1st. High school students who are interested in student council, including the upcoming freshmen, have to complete the application process. Students are required to fill out essay questions and get four teacher recommendations. They also have to get interviewed by the student council adviser.
