Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Community School is pleased to welcome Mr. Andrew Armstead as our new high school principal beginning this coming 2022-2023 school year. Mr. Armstead is currently the 6-12 Principal at De Smet Schools 38-2 in South Dakota, where he has also served as a technology coordinator over the past four years. Prior to his time in DeSmet, Mr. Armstead served the Boyer Valley Community School District as a secondary math teacher and head varsity boys' basketball coach from 2006-2017. In addition to assistant coaching assignments with other teams, Mr. Armstead also served as an Instructional and Technology Coach at Boyer Valley and Woodbine over those years. He holds a B.S. degree in mathematics from Iowa State University and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from the University of South Dakota.
Andy and his wife Stephanie are the proud parents of two children, Hayden and Liam. Mr. Armstead is ready for the transition into his new role at MVAO. "I'm excited to work alongside the dedicated staff at MVAOCOU High School as well as getting to know the students and community," commented Mr. Armstead. Mr. Armstead will fill the position held by Mr. Dan Dougherty, who is retiring this spring after 22 years of service to our school district.
